Isreal is the home to unique and refined wines due to its ideal terroir and local grapes. However, it is hard to source Israeli wine in other countries. Luckily for wine connoisseurs, this is changing, as more options are opening for international shipments.
Wine has played an important part in the region for thousands of years. For example, between 4,000 BCE and 3,000, a wine trading route was established between Mesopotamia and Egypt, linking Israel to other locations. Part of the reason for Israel’s continued success in winemaking is due to its distinctive soils, which are composed of limestone, terra rossa, volcanic stuff and more. This soil creates an interesting depth of flavor that has captivated people for generations.
Today, Israel is home to more than 300 wineries, most of which are boutique and medium-sized vineyards. Due to small vineyard sizes, most of the wine stays in the country. However, Israel’s wine is still globally recognized, with six of its wines receiving gold in the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards.
It has been hard to obtain Israeli wine, but new export methods are emerging. For example, Cork and Cellar is an exclusive wine club that provides members with access to the best Israeli wines and spirits. This is an exciting development for wine lovers who are interested in trying unique, elegant, and flavorful wines.
